Here at Fredericksburg Dental Center, LLC, we are proud to offer root canal retreatment.
It is always our goal to treat your teeth so that they last a lifetime. However, there are times when a tooth becomes painful a few months or years after we treat it. For this reason, we offer retreatments, giving us a chance to save your tooth.
The need for retreatment can happen due to bad dental care. If you don’t continue to brush and floss your teeth, your previously treated tooth may become more damaged. New decay can expose the filling and cause an infection.
It may also happen if your tooth did not heal properly from the first procedure. It can also occur due to your tooth’s anatomy. Your tooth might also become painful if an injury causes it to break.
There are many reasons why a fixed tooth may become problematic again. When that happens, we will reopen your tooth. We will clean out all the filing in your root canal. We will look for any additional problems or infection so that we can fix it properly. We will reshape the canal and re-fill it. Once you are healed, we like to place a crown on top of your tooth to give it the extra protection it needs.
