Here atFredericksburg Dental Center, LLC, we are proud to help your children by offering pulp therapy.
Your children’s pulp cannot be seen by you or your dentist. It is located in the center of each tooth and is made up of nerves, tissue, and blood vessels. Even though it is not visible, it can be damaged through tooth decay.
Here at Fredericksburg Dental Center, LLC, we can perform two types of pulp therapy on children’s primary (baby) teeth as well as their permanent teeth. Although their primary teeth will eventually be gone, they will still benefit from pulp therapy because their primary teeth are needed for proper speaking and eating. Without pulp therapy, your children may be in a lot of pain.
Your children will know they need pulp therapy if their gums are inflamed or if they experience pain (especially at night). If their teeth are sensitive to warm or cold food, they would benefit from pulp therapy. We also like to perform the procedure for children who have redness around the affected tooth.
The first step in pulp therapy is an examination and an X-ray of the affected area. Depending on the severity of the affected pulp as well as its location, we will perform either a pulpotomy or a pulpectomy.
Pulpotomy treatment is when the root is not affected and has no decay. This basically means that just the pulp has been affected. Pulpectomy treatment takes place when the tooth has severe decay and the entire pulp is affected.
Our experienced staff understands your children’s teeth and wants to ensure that they are not in any pain and are well taken care of.
