Signs & Symptoms of Periodontal DiseaseHere at Fredericksburg Dental Center, LLC, we help you treat periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is a disease of the mouth that can be mild but if left untreated can be very harmful in the long term.

The first sign of periodontal disease is usually gingivitis. This means that the gums of your mouth will appear redder than usual. They will also become swollen and bleed when gently poked or flossed.

Another sign or symptom of periodontal disease is bad breath. If you brush your teeth but continue to have bad breath, you may have periodontal disease.

If the disease is not caught and treated right away, your symptoms will only get worse. Gum tissues will start to lose their normal tight attachment to the tooth and cause pocket formation. This will ultimately cause loose teeth and even drifting of teeth as bone is lost.

If you have noticed your gums have more of a red color to them lately, or you are becoming more sensitive to hot or cold temperatures, contact us right away. If you are in the early stages of gingivitis, then we will work to ensure it does not get worse. Instead, we will help you until it is completely gone. We will then work on the prevention of the recurrence of the disease.
